About Quickbeam

Back to Dashboard

Welcome to Quickbeam, a lightweight, privacy-focused Roku casting utility. Quickbeam was built by JLC to bridge the gap between media streams on your mobile devices and the big screen, without the friction of platform accounts, logins, or trackers.

🌟 What is Quickbeam?

Quickbeam is a social cast engine. It allows you to package any supported media link (from YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and web streams) into a randomized, short-lived "Magic Link" and send it to friends or family members. When they open that link, it directly wakes up and plays that video on their physical Roku TV.

📖 Complete User Manual

Follow these simple instructions to set up and get started casting:

  1. Step 1 Install the Roku Channel app:
Make sure the Quickbeam channel app is sideloaded or installed on the target Roku TV. Open it to find a unique 6-digit TV pairing code displayed on the screen.
  2. Step 2 Create your Contacts list:
On the phone dashboard, click **Add Contact**. Enter their Name, their 6-digit Roku TV Code, and optionally their Phone Number or Email.
    • Roku TV Code: Saves pairing settings locally so their TV receives direct ECP commands.
    • Phone/Email: Enables one-tap delivery. Tapping their contact button will directly launch your Messages (SMS) or Mail client pre-addressed to them with the Magic Link filled out.
  3. Step 3 Share & Cast:
Paste a media URL, select a contact, and send! When they open the Magic Link on their phone (on the same Wi-Fi subnet as the TV), it launches the video on their Roku.

⚙️ Under the Hood: Wi-Fi Subnets

Roku devices accept commands using Roku's External Control Protocol (ECP) over your local home network (Wi-Fi). To play a video:
